Luca De La Torre made his long awaited return for La Liga club Celta Vigo on Thursday and walked away with his first goal for the club.
De La Torre came off the bench and helped Celta Vigo earn a 3-0 Copa Del Rey victory over SD Gernika, scoring the club’s third and final goal of the match. De La Torre’s 33 minutes off the bench were the most played by the U.S. men’s national team midfielder since his transfer from Heracles this past summer. With Celta Vigo already holding onto a 2-0 advantage, De La Torre drilled a low shot into the bottom-left corner in the 68th minute.
De La Torre finished the match with two duels won, two recoveries, and a 95% passing completion rate. Celta Vigo resumes its La Liga schedule on Friday against Sevilla.
In Belgium, Mark McKenzie logged 120 minutes as Genk advanced in the Belgian Cup.
In Scotland, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic reclaimed their nine point advantage at the top of the Premiership table.
