The CyHawk rivalry is one of the most heated in college sports. It may not get the press that Michigan versus Ohio State does or even Auburn versus Alabama on the gridiron, but the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones sure don’t like each other all that much.

That rivalry, plus the fact that the Cyclones came into this one ranked No. 10 in the nation, made the Iowa women’s team’s 70-57 win over Iowa State special.

The Hawkeyes actually trailed by five at halftime, which makes the 13-point win even more impressive.

Iowa was led by junior point guard Caitlin Clark, who was last year’s Big Ten Player of the Year and a consensus All-American after leading the country in points averaged per game with 27 and assists per game with eight.

Coming into this contest averaging 28.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game, Clark finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and five steals against the Cyclones. Senior forward Monika Czinano was right behind her with an impressive double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Cyclones were led by senior guard Ashley Joens and junior guard Emily Ryan with 15 points each.

Iowa is now 7-3 on the season and will undoubtedly be moving up the rankings. With the loss, the Cyclones have fallen to 6-2, with their other loss coming against No. 8-ranked North Carolina.
